Abstract

1,209,550. Fire guards. EDWIN H. BRADLEY & SONS Ltd. 5 Dec., 1969 [20 Nov., 1968], No. 55035/68. Heading F4W. A fire guard comprises a pair of spark-proof curtains suspended from guides supported by a framework within or over a fireplace opening so that they can be drawn simultaneously to enclose or expose a fire in the fireplace. The curtains 1, 2, which may be of wire mesh or interlaced flattened wire helices, are suspended by rings 3 from over lapping guide rails 4, 5 and are drawn by chains 17, 18 passing through the side plates of a pelmet 7 supporting the rails. The pelmet 7 is held in place by rods, not shown, engaging sleeves on each of two brackets 12, 13 forced against the sides of a fireplace recess by a turnbuckle 14. The brackets 12, 13 may be spring-urged against the sides of the recess.
