Abstract

1,209,409. Coatings. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 27 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 26757/ 69. Heading B2E. [Also in Division C3] Steel sheets are coated with dispersions containing as solid components: (I) a solid polyepoxide and (II) a solid curing agent for I which are dispersed in (III) a liquid hydrocarbon thinner, b.p. <250‹C. which contains at least 70 % by volume of saturated hydrocarbons and at least 30% by volume of aromatics. I may be a polyglycidyol ether of bisphenol A. II may be 3, 3', 4, 4'-benzophenone tetracarboxylic dianhydride, trimellitic anhydride, a heat reactive phenolformaldehyde resin, a stannons salt of a C 5-30 monocarboxylic acid or triphenyl phosphine. In examples dispersions are applied by drawing down, are first air dried and then cured by heating, e.g. for up to 20 mins. at 177‹C or up to 5 mins. at 240‹C.
