Abstract

PURPOSE: An epoxy resin composition having high heat distorsion temperature and excellent cracking resistance, prepared by mixing an epoxy resin with a curing agent therefor and a specified polyether carbonate.
CONSTITUTION: An epoxy resin having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule, such as a bisphenol A-derived epoxy resin, is mixed with 1W20wt% polyether carbonate represented by formulaI, and then the mixture is reacted by adding a curing agent for epoxy resins. Here, a ployether carbonate of formulaI is prepared by mixing a spiroorthocarbonate of formula II with a bisspiroorthocarbonate of formula III and copolymerizing the mixture in the presence of a cationically polymerizable catalyst such as boron trifluoride. The proportion of the curing agent for epoxy resins is preferably about 0.6W1.2eq. per eq. of epoxy resin.
