Abstract

1,208,743. Fuelling reactors. ATOMIC POWER CONSTRUCTIONS Ltd. 2 Dec., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54669/67. Heading G6C. To allow for thermal movement between the pressure vessel 8 and reactor core 35 a fuelling charge tube 1 extending between the vessel and core is provided with a joint 20. The two portions of the charge tube 1 to either side of the joint 20 are permitted by the joint to move telescopically relatively to each other and also to pivot relatively to each other. As shown, the portion of the charge tube above the joint comprises inner and outer sleeves 21b, 21a fixed to the pressure vessel 8 through a nozzle 4a and clamping nut 30, and the portion below the joint comprises a sleeve 22 surrounding the sleeve 21a with clearance. An annular surface 21c at the lower end of the assembly 21a, 21b forms a pivot on which the sleeve 22 may roll.
