Abstract

1,206,621. Fuelling reactors. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 2 April, 1968 [27 April, 1967], No. 19555/67. Heading G6C. A reactor having a concrete pressure vessel 1 is refuelled by a machine 5 movable along rails 7 in a gantry 8 pivoted at one end about a pivot 11 whereby the machine may be aligned with any one of the fuel element channel terminations 4 situated on the charge face 3. The gantry 8 is supported at its other end and intermediately by wheeled carriages 9, 10 running on arcuate tracks 13, 14. There may be another adjacent reactor 1<SP>1</SP> shown in chain-lines and served by the same machine 5. A separate hoist (not shown) on the gantry may serve for removing heat exchangers disposed in recesses 2 in the pressure vessel wall. In another arrangement (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) four reactors are grouped together and served by two machines respectively mounted on two gantries pivoted about the same axis, the axis being disposed at the centre of the group.
