Abstract
1,162,418. Fuelling reactors. EUROPEAN ATOMIC ENERGY COMMUNITY. 6 Oct., 1967 [6 Oct., 1966], No. 45899/67. Heading G6C. Each fuel channel 3 of a reactor core 1 is connected to the coolant system through a pipe 4 and is extended beyond the pipe connecion by a curved fuel-element guide tube 6 passing with a clearance 10 through a steel sheath 9 in the shielding 2. The lower ends of the tubes 6 have valves 11 and are located in rows in a ring member 8 encircling the bottom part of the shielding 2. A fuel-element charge machine 14 is rockable about a pivot 17 on a truck 16 running on a circular trackway 15 whereby the nose piece 20, which is telescopic, may be connected to a selected tube 6, the fuel elements being inserted or withdrawn by a chain driven by the machine so as to extend through the tube 6. Drain tubes 12 enable a restricted flow of coolant to be maintained in the tubes 6.
