Abstract

1,208,361. Firearm barrels. HECKLER & KOCH G.m.b.H. 1 March, 1968 [8 March, 1967], No. 10046/68. Heading F3C. A barrel for a firearm is provided with a cartridge chamber 3, the bore of the barrel and the cartridge chamber being polygonal in crosssection with rounded corners 6. The sides of the cartridge chamber are tangential to a cartridge case 5 of the calibre for use in the chamber to form release grooves. Preferably the faces of the cartridge chamber have the same twist as the rifling of the bore and the number of corners 6 in the chamber are greater than the number of corners in the bore, e.g. a simple multiple. The rear end of the chamber is circular in cross-section to facilitate the sealing of the rear end of the cartridge case in the chamber (Fig. 1, not shown).
