Abstract
1,208,180. Labelling apparatus. LABELMATIC Inc. 27 Dec., 1968, No. 61515/68. Heading B8F. A hand dispenser for detaching labels 5 from a tape 4 and applying them to an article, has a supply roll 3 whence the tape is led over a plate 33 to a stripper stud 9, the detached labels passing under a roller 11 by which they may be pressed on to an article, and the tape passing between a feed roll 15 having a soft friction covering and a pressure roll 16. The pressure roll 16 is knurled sufficiently to cut into the tape to prevent slip. The feed roll 15 is driven by an oscillatable trigger 21 connected to the roll by a one-way clutch. The stroke of the trigger is limited by abutment against a screw (not shown) which is adjustable in accordance with the length of the labels. The correct adjustment is checked visually by ensuring that an indicator pin (not shown) registers with a coloured reference line provided on each label. The labels are printed by a printing head 38 which is pivoted to the dispenser casing at 40. A cam 43 and inking roller 37 are carried by the trigger, and as they are pivoted anticlockwise by finger pressure on the trigger the head is raised by the cam and the type inked. When the trigger is released it is spring-urged clockwise, the inking roller again inking the type, and finally a spring 41 moves the head into contact with a label to print it. In a simplified dispenser for pre-printed labels the printing head is omitted.
