Abstract

1,207,524. 2,6 - Diphenyl phenol. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 17 Nov., 1967 [14 Dec., 1966], No. 52461/67. Heading C2C. A process for the production of 2,6 - diphenyl phenol comprises the steps of passing a reaction mixture comprising cyclohexanone and alkaline catalyst successively through a plurality of condensation reactors in a condensation reaction zone under conditions that allow a maximum of 70% of the cyclohexanone in the reaction mixture to be converted by autocondensation of the cyclohexanone to give an isomeric mixture of tricyclic ketones, neutralizing the effluent from the reaction zone to form an aqueous and organic phase, separating the aqueous phase from the organic phase, separating the isomeric mixture of tricyclic ketones from the organic phase and passing said isomeric mixture through a dehydrogenation reactor under reaction conditions such that a maximum of 95% of the isomeric mixture is converted to 2,6 - diphenyl phenol. The process is described referring to Figs. 1-3 (not shown).
