Abstract

1,207,036. Reactors. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. 4 Dec., 1968, No. 57583/68. Heading G6C. The wall 1, and floor 2, of the concrete pressure vessel of a water-cooled nuclear reactor are thermally insulated by cells 6 filled with U- shaped, glazed porcelain bodies. The wall cells are formed of channel-form plates 5, welded together and to the lining plates 3. The floor cells are built from bent plates 21 welded together and to the lining plate. Apertures 7, 23, 24 and 25 are provided to permit water to fill the cells. At the end of reactor operation, water is withdrawn from the pressure vessel and flows from the cells as the water level falls. The siphon tubes 9 empty the lower regions of the cells. The sealing lining is cooled by the tubes 4.
