Abstract
1,207,009. Wet screening. AMES CROSTA MILLS & CO. Ltd., and F. SANDERSON. 20 Nov., 1968. No. 56217/68. Heading B2H. An apparatus for washing screenings which have already been removed from sewage comprises an annular channel 27 whose base is constituted by a rotating perforated table 26, a conveyor belt 31 for feeding untreated screenings into the channel, a scroll 32 for discharging washed screenings from the channel, perforated pipes 35 for directing jets or sprays of water on to the screenings in the channel, and idle squeezing rollers 38 arranged to act upon the wet screenings to extract the water therefrom and to force fecal and other matter through the perforations in the table 26 while rags &c. are retained thereon and discharged by the scroll 32. The table 26 is made up of tapered perforated plates supported on a spider 22 resting at its outer periphery on idle rollers 24 and connected at its inner periphery to a hub 21 driven through a reduction gearbox 19 and a belt 18 by means of an electric motor 17. The channel 27 has an inner cylindrical wall 28 fixed to the 'table 26 and an outer inwardlysloping wall 29 attached to the rim of a surrounding casing 10. The squeezing rollers 38 are supported by swinging arms 39. The perforated pipes 35 are fed from a header pipe 36. A scroll 37 is provided for mechanically disturbing the moving layer of screenings.
