In a filter system in which replaceable bags 1, e.g. of silicone-treated glass-fibre fabric, are suspended in a filter chamber and axially tensioned, the open ends of the bags opening out through a wall 3 (Fig. 1) into a crude-gas or pure-gas compartment (according to which way the dust-laden gas passes through the fabric of the bags), the other end of each bag is folded into pleats and gripped by a V-shaped clip to form a gas-tight closure. The clip causes uniform distribution of tensile stresses over the width of the bag and presents teasing when the bag is stressed by a reverse flow of cleansing gas. The end of the bag to be closed may be first folded once to form a single cuff or twice to form a double cuff 10 and then pleated as shown in Fig. 2. The clip may be of stainless steel and as shown in Fig. 3, each arm having a hole 14, 14' for suspension on hook 19, and one arm having two pointed claws 13 which pass through the bag and slots 15 in the other arm and are then bent over at the ends. The hooks 19 is suspended from support 18 and adjustably tensioned by spring 22. The open end of the bag is fastened by clip 9 over a thimble 2 whose outer flange 5 is sealed against the wall 3 by gasket 6. Stiffening rings 23, 24 may be stitched to the bag. An alteration clip (Fig. 6, not shown) has two or more suspension holes and pairs of laterally spaced small holes to receive fastening staples.
