Abstract

1,206,349. Ventilating buildings. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 12 Dec., 1968 [16 May, 1968], No. 59166/68. Heading F4V. A false ceiling for ventilating a room comprises one or more chambers each having a perforated bottom wall, the remaining walls of the chamber being formed by a flexible membrane. In the form shown, the bottom wall comprises panels 5 linked by flexible plastics strips 13 which permit the chamber to be rolled or folded for transport. The membrane 6 may be coated with soft plastics foam 15 as a thermal and sound insulation material. In another embodiment, the panels 5 are covered with sound damping mats and an air tight membrane, and the air outlets from the chamber are formed in the strips 13. The bottom wall of the chamber may be a corrugated plastics strip and the strip and membrane may be transparent. In a further embodiment, the chamber comprises a sac made of transparent or translucent foil which is supported by a perforated panel and is prevented from expanding upwardly towards lighting tubes.
