Abstract

1,206,324. Continuous degassing. KLOCKNER-WERKE A.G. Sept. 26, 1968 [Sept. 28, 1967], No.45835/68. Heading C7D. Apparatus for the treatment of a metal melt comprises a vertically adjustable vessel 3 for the melt, whose height may be altered by a hydraulic device 4, and a suction conduit 5 leading from the vessel to the inlet of degasification chamber 7 in which the melt collects in trough 6. The bottom surface 8 of the chamber slopes upwards towards another collecting trough 9 at the outlet of the chamber and metal is transferred from trough 6 to trough 9 by an electromagnetic climb-up device 19. The melt is entracted from the chamber through conduit 12, provided with a rate-of-flow regulator 13, to a distributer vessel 15 filled with inert gas from which it is delivered by conduits 16 to casting plant. Preferably the ceiling and the floor of the degasification chamber are substantially parallel and the ceiling is provided with heating bars 11.
