Abstract

1,205,799. Sampling. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. 21 Nov., 1968 [28 Nov., 1967], No. 54061/67. Heading B8N. A sampling device comprises a moving conveyer 1 for carrying material to be sampled, a support 6 in longitudinal alignment with the conveyer, a bucket 3 for collecting the sample mounted on a lever 4 movable along the support by drive means 10-13, and guide means 15 arranged to hold the bucket to one side of the conveyer while the lever is accelerated from rest to the same speed as the conveyer by the drive means and to pivot the lever about the support axis so that a sample is collected while the lever and the conveyer are moving at the same speed. The drive means comprises an electric motor 13, ropes 10, preferably of wire, attached to the lever and wound on to a drum 12. The guide means includes a cam track 15 engaged by a roller device 14 on the lever. At the end of a forward sample collecting run, the bucket discharges the sample through its open back preferably into a shoot. As illustrated, the bucket is pivoted to the lever and at the end of its forward run is pivoted by roller (19) (Fig. 3, not shown) engaging a cam (17) into an upper position in which position it is retained during a return run until pivoted back to its lower position by a roller (20) (Fig. 4, not shown) engaging a cam (18). The device may be manually controlled but is preferably operated automatically.
