Abstract
1,254,748. Controlling tow take-up. TEIJIN Ltd. 17 July, 1969 [23 July, 1968], No. 36191/ 69. Heading D1F. Apparatus for the automatic control of the amount of tow T transferred by means of a conveyor 7 comprises a tow detector disposed above the conveyor, the tow detector consisting of a hanging arm 4 mounted on a rotatable means 3, a magnet 5 secured on the hanging arm 4, and a switch 6 to act with the magnet 5, the control being such that the lower end of the hanging arm 4 is pushed up in the tow forwarding direction by the tow T, and the magnet 5 is moved away from the switch 6 which thereby actuates the take-up means. In a preferred embodiment, two tow detectors are positioned above the conveyor 7. In operation, the arm 4 is pushed up by the advancing tow and the switch 6 is on; the arm 4' is then pushed up by the advancing tow and the switch 6' is on. The take-up means does not operate until both switches 6, 6' are on. The take-up means is then operated to take-up at a faster speed than the tow advance. Thus after a time the arm 4' will fall back because of insufficient tow being present and the switch 6' is then off. Since the switch 6 is on the take-up continues until the tow between the arms 4, 4' is taken-up and the arm 4 falls back so that the switch is off. At this point the take-up can stop or be reduced to operate at a slower speed. Several arms may be arranged transversely of the direction of tow advance.
