Abstract

1,205,238. α,#,Diaminopimelic acid. HYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO. Ltd. 8 March, 1968, No. 38862/67. Heading C2C. α,#-Diaminopimelic acid is prepared by culturing a micro-organism capable of producing diaminopimelic acid under aerobic conditions in an aqueous nutrient medium containing at least one hydrocarbon as the main carbon source, and accumulating and recovering the said acid from the culture liquor. The hydrocarbon is preferably a straight or branched chain alkane of from 10 to 25 carbon atoms, particularly nparaffins of 11 to 18 carbons or kerosene, light or heavy oils, paraffin oils, naphtha and mixtures thereof. The fermentation is preferably effected at a temperature of from 25‹ to 40‹ C., at a pH between 6 and 8, and in the presence of thiamine and L-lysine as nutrients. Specified micro-organisms include lysine-requiring mutants of the following species: Arthrobacter paraffineus, A. roseoparaffinus, A. hydrocarboglutamicus, Corynebacterium hydrocarboclastus, Micrococcus paraffinolyticus, and Brevibacterium ketoglutamicum.
