Abstract
1,176,266. L-Citrulline by fermentation. KYOWA HAKKO KOGYO CO. Ltd. 24 July, 1968 [31 July, 1967], No. 35336/68. Heading C2C. L-Citrulline is produced by cultivating a hydrocarbon-assimilating and arginine requiring microorganism under aerobic conditions in an aqueous nutrient medium containing at least one hydrocarbon as the main carbon source. The microorganisms that may be used are Corynebacterium hydrocarboclastus ATCC 2142 and mutant strains of Brevibacterium ketoglutamicum ATCC 15588, Arthrobacter paraffineus ATCC 15591, and of A. roseoparaffinus ATCC 15584. Suitable hydrocarbons include straight and branched chain paraffins having from 10 to 25 carbon atoms, particularly C 18 n-paraffins, cycloparaffins, olefines, cycloolefines, aromatics and mixed hydrocarbon oils such as kerosene. The culture media preferably contains thiamine in addition to L-arginine.
