Abstract
1,205,152. Coated flexible sheet material. KURASHIKI RAYON K.K. 24 June, 1968 [22 June, 1967; 27 June, 1967; 18 July, 1967], No. 29920,68. Heading B2E. A sheet material with good surface hardness, moisture permeability and pliability comprises a flexible and moisture permeable fibrous base material and in adherent contact therewith a moisture-permeable embossed polymer layer having a thickness of 0.02- 0.09 mm and a specific gravity of 0.6-0.9. The polymer layer is produced by applying a layer of polymer solution in such a thickness so as to form a layer having a thickness of 0.02-0.09 mm after drying, treating said layer of polymer with a non-solvent for the polymer to coagulate the layer of polymer solution to such a degree that its coagulation is almost completed but some fluidity still remains, embossing the resulting polymer layer having remaining fluidity, and then solidifying the layer. The polymer layer is solidified either by coagulating the layer completely by treating it with a non-solvent for the polymer, followed by drying or by directly drying the layer. The fibrous base material may be impregnated with water or other liquid before the layer of polymer solution is applied. The fibrous base material specified is a polyurethane web of fibres produced from a melt of a mixture of nylon-6 and polystyrene. The polymer layer coating is preferably a polyurethane elastomer which may be blended with polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate or an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer.
