Abstract
1440192 Laminates JOHNSON & JOHNSON 5 Dec 1973 [5 Sept 1972 8 Feb 1973] 41128/72 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions A5 and C3] A flexible porous film comprises a foamed plasticized polyvinyl chloride in which at least a major proportion by weight of the plasticizer is a polymeric plasticizer of molecular weight of at least 600, the film having open cells which have a diameter less than the thickness of the film. The film may be made by mixing a liquid, which volatilizes without decomposition with a plastisol comprising polyvinyl chloride and preferably the above plasticizer, casting the mixture in the form of a film and heating the film to volatilize the liquid and gel the plastisol. The porous film may form a surgical dressing by being used as a backing on an absorbent pad for wound exudate, the other surface of the pad having a pervious facing. The film may also be used to protect stainless steel surfaces by being adhered thereto.
