Abstract

1,204,869. Modifying metallic surfaces. FOSECO TRADING A. G. Dec. 5, 1968 [Dec. 8, 1967], No. 56067/67. Heading C7U. A metal workpiece, prior to working is contacted with a solution containing an alkyl monoamine phosphate or an alkyl alkylene diamine phosphate, and having a pH, of 4 or less. The amine may have the general formula RNH2 or RNH. (CH2)n NH2 where n is 2 or more and R is an alkyl group containing 8 to 30 carbon atoms. This alkyl group is derived from fatty acids such as tallow, coconut, soya, and palm oil. In a specific example the solution contains (% by weight) (Registered Trade Mark) "Duomeen" 3À2, phosphoric acid 7À3, nitric acid 2, and water 87À5 (pH 1À5). The amine phosphate may be formed in situ.
