Abstract
1,204,652. Gas turbine engine combustion equipment. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Jan. 20, 1969, No.3145/69. Headings F1G and F1L. A gas turbine engine has combustion equipment comprising an outer chamber 16 having an inlet 17 for air from the engine compressor and surrounding an inner chamber 20 containing a flame tube 23 and a heat exchanger 22 having a path 21 through which the compressed air flows to the flame tube inlet 24. Gases leave the flame tube through an outlet 25 to drive the turbine 14. The heat exchanger 22 has a second path 26 receiving hot liquid sodium from a heat exchanger (31), Fig.1 (not shown), in the engine exhaust duct (15). The heat exchangers 22, (31) are connected in a closed circuit through which the sodium is circulated by a magnetic or other pump (33). An inner skin 35 defines a cooling air space 34 with the wall of the outer chamber 16. The engine may be provided with several such combustion units which are angularly spaced apart from each other.
