Abstract

1,204,521. Belt-type passenger conveyers. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 6 Aug., 1968 [9 Aug., 1967]. No. 36488/67. Heading B8A. A joint device for a conveyer comprises a train of load-supporting panels 1 in which the trailing edge 8 of each panel is near to the leading edge 8<SP>1</SP> of the next successive panel, the panels being pivotally secured to one another so as to be relatively angularly movable in a common plane, at least one of each pair of successive panels having a longitudinal rib in the region of the junction of the panels, the joint device comprising toothed bridging means 17 extending between the confronting edges of successive panels, the teeth 21 of the bridging means being locatable at spaced-apart positions across the width of the conveyer in the grooves between the ribs. As shown, the pivotal connection between the panels is provided by a forked member 11 and an eye 10 at respective ends of a cable 9 embedded in each panel. The latter are made of rubber having two embedded layers 2, 3, of steel cords interspaced with a layer 4 of textile reinforcement. The bridging means between the panels comprises an H- shaped support 15 engaging the edges 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and toothed members 21, 21, secured to the support 15 by being clamped between plates 18, 19 by screws 20 threaded into the support. The members 21, 21, are of polyvinyl chloride or a polyurethane, and can flex as the conveyer negotiates curves about a vertical axis. The panels are driven by the action of an endless cable 14 which engages the walls of a groove 12 formed in each panel.
