Abstract
1,204,413. Sweetening agent. MONSANTO CO. 4 April, 1968 [5 April, 1967], No. 16356/68. Addition to 1,176,246. Heading A2B. A sweetening composition comprising at least 85 parts by weight of a maize starch hydrolysate, as defined, having a dextrose equivalent of 5-15 and an iodine affinity of less than 1, and up to 10 parts by weight of a non nutritive sweetener or sweeteners, for example a mixture of cyclamates and saccharine, the composition having a bulk density of up to 30 lbs./cu. ft., and preferably being in the form of particles all of which pass at 14 mesh U.S. standard screen but are all retained by a 100 mesh screen, may be prepared by preparing an aqueous solution of the components, drying to a glass, and reducing the particle size. Prior to drying the solution may be converted to a stable foam, preferably in the presence of a whipping agent.
