Abstract

1,204,366. Disc brakes. SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd. 26 Sept., 1967, No. 43698/67. Heading F2E. In a disc brake having a fixed support 2 on one side of a disc 1 and a cylinder 6 provided with two pistons 7, 8 mounted on the support 2 one piston 7 is arranged to apply a braking thrust directly to a first friction member 3<SP>1</SP>, 3 and a second friction member 4<SP>1</SP>, 4 on the other side of the disc is operated by the other piston 8 remote from the disc via a movable member 5 connected to the fixed support 2 by a pivot pin 13 so that the movable member is limited to pivotal movement. The angular movement of the member 5 is limited by a pin and slot 14, 15. The pad 4 is secured by a screw 17 to a support plate 16 and positioned by pins 19 which pass through holes 21, 22 in the metal back plates 3<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> of the brake pads 3, 4. The circumferential forces which occur on braking are applied directly to the wall 18 of the support 2 for the pad assembly 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and to the pivot pin 13 via the movable member 5 for the pad assembly 4, 4<SP>1</SP>.
