Abstract

1,203,547. Discharge tubes. S.A.E.S. GETTERS S.p.A. 12 March, 1969 [23 Jan., 1969], No. 13013/69. Heading H1D. [Also in Division C7] A mixture adapted to evolve vapours of an alkali metal comprises as sole constituents an alkali metal compound and a Zr-Al alloy as a reducing agent. The compound, e.g. a chromate, and the alloy (see Division C7) are preferably both finely divided so as to pass through a screen having at least 254 meshes per cm. A light-sensitive surface may be formed in a television camera tube, a photomultiplier tube, an electronic viewfinder, an image converter tube, or an image intensifier for radiological purposes by placing in the tube a slit dispenser of Ni-Cr V alloy containing the mixture, sealing the tube and connecting it to a vacuum pump, heating the tube to a temperature of between 300‹ to 400‹ C. for 1 to 8 hours whilst continually evacuating the tube of any residual gases, and finally heating the said mixture to a temperature in the range of 450-1000‹ C.
