Abstract
1,203,444. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate; calcium phosphate; magnesium ammonium phosphate. ALBRIGHT & WILSON (MFG.) Ltd. 6 March, 1968 [7 March, 1967], No. 10751/67. Heading C1A. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate is precipitated by cooling to a temperature of less than 54‹ C., an aqueous solution which was saturated with potassium chloride and ammonium dihydrogen phosphate at at least 55‹ C. The solution may be saturated with at least one of the solutes at between 80‹ and 100‹ C., and may be cooled to less than 10‹ C. for precipitation. Calcium phosphate, or magnesium ammonium phosphate may be precipitated as by-products by filtering and adding a source of calcium or magnesium ions to the filtrate. After further filtration, the filtrate may be treated with base to liberate ammonia, and potassium chloride may be recovered by a known fractional crystallization process, leaving a solution of calcium (or magnesium) chloride. All these recovered products may be recycled. The calcium and mangesium ion sources are normally CaO or MgO. However, these ions may be provided by the recycled calcium, or magnesium, chloride solution.
