Abstract

1,202,886. Ratchet clutches. MOULTEN BICYCLES Ltd. 18 Nov., 1968 [22 Nov., 1967], No. 53218/67. Heading F2C. In a five step freewheel mechanism comprising a spindle 1, a spacer tube 2, a hub 3, a ball race 4 between the tube 2 and a spindle cone 5, a freewheeling centre 6, a second race 7 between the freewheeling centre and a freewheeling body 8 which bears against a third ball race 9 between itself and a cone 10, there are four sprockets 11-14 mounted on the freewheeling body 8 and a fifth sprocket 15 mounted on the sprocket 14. This arrangement permits the sprocket 15 to have a diameter not exceeding 45 mms so that it may have as few as nine teeth. The freewheel comprises a ratchet 20 with an even number of teeth and equidistantly spaced pawls 19. A further larger sprocket may he mounted at 23 on the body 8.
