Abstract

1,202,329. Valves. R. DAUME. 17 June, 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 28726/68. Heading F2V. [Also in Division F1] The valve is adjusted in discrete amounts against a resilient means by a stack of fluid pressure actuators 1 to 8 which are graded in a series as to the amount of movement each can impart to the valve member 11. The actuators are controlled through three-way pilot valves 17 and may be operated according to a binary code. As shown, a normally open valve is arranged to be closed. The stack bears at one end on a housing 9 and at the other on a spring retainer 14. Each actuator comprises a base 19 screwed to a sleeve 21 on the valve stem 13 and with a connection 20 for the flexible pipe 16. The base is sealed to a sliding member 22 by a bellows 26, and the permitted relative movement is set by an adjustable stop nut 24 with peripheral teeth for locking by a pin 25. In a modification, a rolling diaphragm type seal is clamped to the base. In another embodiment, a normally closed valve is arranged to be opened, the stack being inverted.
