Abstract

1,202,022. Electromagnetic contactors. ARROW ELECTRIC SWITCHES Ltd. 7 Feb., 1969 [9 Feb., 1968], No. 6636/69. Heading H1N. An electromagnetic contactor has an insulating base 10 enclosing fixed and movable contacts 12c, 24 and pivotable insulating contact operating means 30 to which the armature 36 is secured and located to co-operate with the electromagnet assembly (50) comprising coils (53), 54 and yoke 58 in an insulating body 51 mounted on an insulating support member 40 which is secured to the base 10 to retain pivot trunnions 32 of the operating means 30 in recesses 16 of the box 10. As shown, the contactor has three sets of main contacts each comprising a movable contact bridge 24 and fixed contacts 12c on contact members 12a, 12b which are secured in the base 10 by screws 12s. The contact bridges 24 are resiliently mounted in apertures in a carrier 20 by pairs of springs as in Specification 1,078,343 and the carrier is biased upward by spring-pressed plungers 27, so that the operating means 30, which has forked ends engaging projections 28 of the carrier 20, is biased to the unattracted position shown. Additional contact units (Fig. 15, not shown) may be attached on dovetail projections 14a on the side of the base and co-operate with the carrier projections 28 and auxiliary contact devices 80 (Fig. 19) may be " dovetailed " on to the member 40 with operating buttons 89 in the path of movement of projections 34 of the operating means 30. Both the armature 36 and yoke 58 are mounted for limited restrained and cushioned movement relative to the respective members 30, 40 to ensure alignment on engagement and increased " mechanical life."
