Abstract
1,201,579. Sodium fluosilicate. SOC. ITALIANA RESINE S.p.A. 28 Nov., 1968 [29 Nov., 1967], No. 56590/68. Heading C1A. Sodium fluosilicate is prepared by treating fluoride- and silicate-bearing mineral phosphate with excess sulphuric acid in solution, removing excess sulphate, precipitating the sodium fluosilicate from the resulting phosphate-, silicate- and fluoride-containing solution by addition of sodium mono- or polyphosphates or mixtures thereof. The sodium fluosilicate is preferably precipitated in at least 98% purity and the remaining phosphate solution preferably contains no more than 1 g./l. F- and 0.5 g./l. silicate (as SiO 2 ). The solution to which phosphate is added may contain 200-450 g./l. phosphate (as P 2 O 5 ), up to 35 g./l. fluoride (as F-) and up to 18 g./l. silicate (as SiO 2 ). The addition of phosphate may be such that the Na: F molar ratio is between 1 : 1 and 2À5 : 1. The crystals obtained can be separated from the solution by filtering, temperatures for precipitation and filtering being between 40‹ and 100‹ C.
