1,152,203. Crystalline mordenite. L'AIR LIQUIDE SOC. ANON. POUR L'ETUDE ET L'EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE. 12 July, 1966 [12 July, 1965], No. 31347/66. Addition to 1,119,962. Heading C1A. Crystalline mordenite is obtained by subjecting an amorphous alkali metal aluminosilicate of formula 0À4-1À6 M 2 O: Al 2 O 3 : 8-16 SiO 2 to a hydrothermal treatment at 100-200‹ C. under autogenous pressure in the presence of sufficient alkali, e.g. soda, to give a pH of 11-13À3. The amorphous aluminosilicate may be obtained by precipitation from an alkali metal silicate, e.g. with SiO 2 /M 2 O of 2-3À2, and an Al salt, e.g. sulphate, chloride, nitrate, or an alum, or by the method of Specification 753,052. Temperatures of 100-350‹ C. (comparative) and pressures of 1-168 bars are exemplified for the hydrothermal treatment. The mother liquor may be re-used. If Na aluminosilicate was used critically, the Na ions may be exchanged for ions of other alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, or hydrogen. The product may be dehydrated.
