Abstract

1,201,523. Finely divided polyesters. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 21 April, 1969 [17 May, 1968], No. 23580/68. Heading C3R. Synthetic polyesters are prepared in finelydivided form by dissolving the polyester in propylene carbonate, ethylene carbonate or a mixture thereof at an elevated temperature, admixing the hot solution formed with a diluent to cause precipitation of the polyester, and separating the polyester from the liquid mixture. The diluent is preferably water, isopropyl alcohol, acetone or a low molecular weight hydrocarbon such as toluene. The polyester may be polyethylene terephthalate, polyethylene isothalate, polyethylene orthophthalate or a copolyester of two or more of these. Preferably the polyester solution is heated for at least 30 minutes before being slowly added to the cold diluent.
