1,222,625. Polyethylene terephthalate. M & T CHEMICALS Inc. 3 Oct., 1969 [7 Oct., 1968], No. 48687/69. Heading C3R. Polyethylene terephthalate is prepared by the direct esterification of ethylene glycol with terephthalic acid at superatmospheric pressure and at a temperature of at least 260‹ C. followed by polycondensation at at least 260‹ C. under subatmospheric pressure in the presence of potassium antimonyl oxalate, lithium antimonyl oxalate or antimonyl oxalate as a catalyst.
