Abstract

1,201,085. Selective printing. INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd. 26 June, 1968 [27 June, 1967], No. 29536/67. Heading B6F. Hammer construction and arrangement.-A hammer block assembly for a line printer comprises a transverse retaining bar 21 with a straight edge 21A defining a line adjacent the printing line and a comb 23 with slots 23A which extend beyond the edge 21A, the hammers 13, 113 &c. being held between the teeth of the comb 23 and against the straight edge. As described four retainer bars 21, 21<SP>1</SP>, 25, 25<SP>1</SP> and four combs 23, 23<SP>1</SP>, 26, 26<SP>1</SP> are mounted on a block 20. Alternate slots in the lower combs 26, 26<SP>1</SP> are wider so the hammers have only a three-point bearing and do not bind. Lower plates 37, 37<SP>1</SP> have extensions 37A, 37A<SP>1</SP> to form lower stops for the hammers by engagement of shoulders 39. Actuation of hammers.-The hammers are operated by electromagnets having levers 17 which extend alternately in opposite directions. Resetting and anti-rebound arrangements.- Flat springs 40, 40<SP>1</SP> with tongues 40A, 40A<SP>1</SP> engaging shoulders 41, 141, restore the hammers after impact. The springs are formed of resilient material such that it is strong enough to prevent rebound.
