Abstract

1,104,642. Selective printers. ANELEX CORPORATION. 25 June, 1965, No. 26950/65. Heading B6F. A high-speed printer having a continuously rotatable drum 30, on which identical numerical characters are aligned at a printing position for line-by-line printing is provided with a hammer mechanism, which comprises a plurality of hammers 32 aligned opposite the numerical characters. The hammers 32 are disposed within an opening 34 of a plate 12, to which is attached the hammer assembly frame 80 comprising plates 82, 84 which serve as guides for the shanks 74 to which the hammer heads 70 are attached. The hammer heads are offset with respect to the shanks so that the shanks of alternate hammers may be aligned in a row, two such rows being formed. The hammer heads 70 are provided with slots 76 which are engaged by guide pins 89 mounted in the plate 82. The hammers are urged away from the drum 30 by springs 90, which in one row are retained by washers 83 sprung on to the shanks 74 and plate 82 and in the other row by washers 81 and plate 84. Each hammer cooperates with a relevant hammer actuating lever 36 operated by a solenoid 103 for timed impact of the hammers 32 against the drum 30. The solenoids 103 and their associated actuating levers 36 are arranged in two separate banks one for each row of alternate hammer shanks and the banks are arranged in fan-like array.
