Abstract

Oct. 29, 1917 Point-tongues, construction and mounting of.- Railway points having point tongues of less dimensions than the ordinary rails and which retain throughout their length one base flange and the major portion of the other flange, are mounted on spaced supports having rail seats of different elevations for the ordinary and point rails, the point rails being also mounted at their heel ends in a chair formed with integral means for securing them in position. In the construction described, the point tongues 13 are stated to be standard " eighty pound " rails and the ordinary rails 11 and 12 standard " one hundred pound " rails. The rail seats for the point tongues are elevated to bring the upper surface of the tongues up to the upper surface of the rails 11 and 12, and some of the seats are provided with limiting stops 38, Fig. 8, while others permit the flange of the tongue to engage the web of the ordinary rail. Fig. 2. Undercut recesses and shoulders also are provided on the chair seats for the rails 11. Fig. 10 shows the mounting of the heel end of a point. tongue 13 in jaws 25 formed integral with the chair 14.
