Abstract

1,200,894. Coating candles. N. G. BARFRED. 14 Nov., 1967 [14 Nov., 1966], No. 50982/66. Heading B2L. In a machine for dipping candles the candles 28 are carried by a clamp 18 on the ends of radially extending arms 5 which are lowered to collect the candles from a holder 16 by a piston and cylinder 14, lowered again into the various treating baths, e.g. 17 as the arms are indexed and then finally lowered to release the candles for packing the number of arms equalling the number of treatment containers plus the collection and discharge points. The jaws of the clamps 18 are opened and closed by a member 25 which acts on the jaws 23, 24 which are connected to the clamp 18 to open and close them. The jaws 23, 24 are always partly open and the member 25 has a tapered end and is rotated to open the jaws. The dipping may be to add a non-drip outer coat of stearin or a coloured layer or to produce a glossy or glazed surface by dipping in cold water immediately after diping in melted candle composition. The candles may be only partially withdrawn at first to produce a taper before the final withdrawal.
