QRZNAMENTED CANDLE.
Applicationfiled June 13, 1923. Serial No. 645,144.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HARRY F. GLAIR and OSCAR E. BRANSKY, citizens of the United States, residing at Whiting, in the county of Lake and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ornamented Candles, ofwhich the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in ornamented candles and will be fully understood from the following description, illustrated by the accompanymg drawings, in which an ornamented candle manufactured in accordance with the pres- 1 ent invention is shown.
In accordance with the present invention, large irregular scale-like incrustations are formed on the surface of a wax candle (the body of which preferably consists of paraf- -fin wax), the candle being subsequently colored in any suitable manner, by a simple dip into colored wax or by dipping in the manner described in the prior patent of Brinker et al No. 1,428,940, granted Septemas her 12,1922.
In carrying out our invention we dip a wax candle into a molten body of Montan wax, having a melting point of 176 to 186 F, the dip ing being effected by simple so immersion and withdrawal of the wax candle. The resulting coating, when cold, has a broken irregular scale-like appearance, the scale-like incrustations having the general appearance illustrated in the drawing in which the candle is indicated by 5 and the incrustations by the numeral 6. The margins of these incrustations tend to curve away from the body of the candle to a greater or less extent, and, by light pressure with the hands, portions of the margins of the incrustations which protrude too far from the body of the candle may be broken away, to prevent their subsequent breakage during transportation.
After the scale-like incrustations have been produced on the surface of the candle, it may be. coated in any suitable manner, by simple dipping if a single color is desired, or, if a number of colors are desired by the method described in the prior patent above referred to. Coloring by the latter method is particularly desirable, as the irregular scale-like surface of the coating of the candle produces pockets and depressions in which color may lodge and the richness of coloration is thereby materially enhanced.
We claim:
1. An ornamented candle having scalelike surface incrustations of irregular size.
2. A candle havingscale-like surface. incrustations of irregular size and a color coating superimposed thereon.
3. An ornamented candle having a body consisting largely of paraflin wax and irregular surface incrustations of scale-like character of Montan wax.
4. An ornamented candle having a body
