Abstract
587,637. Cores; core materials. LOWINGER, V. A., and WALPOLE, W. T. PELL-. Dec. 6, 1944, No. 24417. [Class 83 (i)] A hollow body of copper-tin bronze or other metal is made by casting about an iron or other metal core wrapped in asbestos paper or like flexible, heat-resisting material. The core, if parallel or slightly tapered, is easily withdrawn. Large diameter cores should have two or more layers of paper. Prior to use, the wrapped core is brushed over with a suitable gum or core wash, dried, given a coat of protective wash and finally baked. The protective wash may comprise 5 per cent of aluminium powder and 1 per cent of gum in water. The treated core is baked for not less than 15 minutes at 250-300‹ C. - The Provisional Specification refers to the gum known under the Registered Trade Mark " Kordek " as suitable for use in the process.
