Abstract

In a casing for a lock mechanism of the type including an escutcheon plate I having a planar interior surface in which there is a groove for containing a lock mechanism and a cover plate 18 having edge parts directed substantially perpendicular to the plane thereof for preventing relative rotation of the cover plate and the escutcheon plate, the latter is made from a synthetic plastics material and the cover plate from a metal of greater strength than the plastics material. As shown, the plate 1 supports a handle 3 carrying a lock operating shaft 4 which carries a locking plate 5 having therein a recess for engagement by a manually slidable bolt 7 by which, movement of the handle may be blocked. In another arrangement, Figs. 5-8 (not shown), transverse retaining straps (34, 35) for the bolt 7 are provided on the plate 1, and the cover plate fits over the sides of the plate 1. In a modification, Fig. 9 (not shown) the cover plate is flush with the sides of the plate 1.
