Abstract
1,200,412. Stud and socket fasteners. ALBERT JAGGER Ltd. 9 Jan., 1969 [10 Jan., 1968], No. 1417/68. Heading E2B. An assembly for use in a fastening device of the kind comprising a stud 10 adapted to be secured to a fixed member 12 such as a stanchion or door frame so as to project therefrom, the outer end portion of the stud being formed with a slot in which is located a retaining member 17 in the form of an elongated plate, the fastening device also comprising an eye 13 adapted to be secured to a hinged member such as a door, tail board or drop side of a vehicle which it is required to fasten so that said eye can be engaged with the stud after the retaining member has been turned into a position in which it is generally aligned with the stud whereafter the eye is retained in position by turning the retaining member to a fastening position in which it extends at right angles to the stud to prevent separation of the eye from the stud, wherein the retaining member is formed along one edge with at least two laterally projecting abutments adapted to engage a pin 15 extending across the slot in the stud when the retaining member is in its fastening position one of said abutments 18 being disposed at a position at or near to the centre of length of the retaining member with the other, abutment or abutments 19, 20 disposed above said first mentioned abutment considering the retaining member to be in its fastening position while said edge of the retaining member above and below said abutments is of straight configuration. In the construction shown the edge having the abutments is an edge of a slot 16 in the retaining member. In a modification however instead of the retaining member having a slot it is provided at each end portion with an enlargement which precludes it from passing through the slot in the stud. The enlargement 18 is intended to engage the pin 15 in the fastening position of the retaining member but if wear should take place the retaining member can drop a short distance until the pin engages the next abutment 19 and so on.
