Abstract

1,199,599. Air rectification process. HYDROCARBON RESEARCH Inc. 8 Dec., 1967, No. 56004/67. Heading F4P. In a two stage air rectification process wherein feed compressed air admitted through a line 10 is cooled to dew point in conventional reversing exchangers 16, 18 and fed through a line 22 to the high pressure column 24, effluent nitrogen withdrawn from the low pressure column 56 through lines 70, 72 is work-expanded at 74, passed through an exchanger 44b where it cools crude liquid oxygen withdrawn through a line 40 from the base of column 24 and subsequently expanded at a valve 50 into column 56, and the work expanded effluent nitrogen is finally passed through exchangers 16, 18 and an exhaust line 80, and high-pressure nitrogen withdrawn from the head of column 24 through a line 26 is work expanded at 30 and is then passed through exchangers 16, 18 and an exhaust line 38. Product liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen are withdrawn from column 36 through lines 82, 86 respectively and product gaseous oxygen nitrogen are withdrawn from the worn end of exchanger 16 through lines 68, 38.
