Abstract

1,199,104. Two part Couplings. M-O VALVE CO. Ltd. 1 July, 1969 [4 July, 1968], No. 32001/68. Heading H2E. A coaxial connector 1 has a generally tubular metal body 5 consisting of three sections of different internal diameters, the widest being at the end which receives a coaxial cable 2, and the narrowest being at the opposite end, wherein the outer conductor 4 of the cable 2 may be jammed in the narrowest section and makes electrical contact with the central section, the widest section being adapted to be filled with hardenable material 17. The aluminium outer conductor 4 and insulation 16 of the cable 2 are stripped back and the length of the outer conductor which will fit in the connector is roughened. A conductive paste consisting of a silver dust and hardenable resin is spread over the roughened area and the cable is forced into the gold-plated brass body 5. When the resin has hardened, resin is introduced into the widest section and hardened thereby anchoring the cable. The silicone rubber washer 15 is placed in position and the copper central conductor 3 filed into shape. Into the slot 8 is placed a resilient split ring 9 which retains the lock nut 11 in position while allowing rotation thereof. The female connector 14 has a body 13 of the same form as the male connector body 5 at the cable entry end but has an extension carrying an external thread 12 adjacent the narrowest section. The body 13 is secured to the cable in the same way as the body 5. A brass socket contact 24 mounted in a P.T.F.E. insert is soldered to the centre conductor 28. The two parts are so dimensioned that on screwing the lock nut 11 on to the thread 12, the central conductor 3 enters the contact 24 and the front face of the female connector abuts the silicone rubber washer 15 and the front face of the P.T.F.E. insert abuts the face of the body 5 of the male connector.
