Abstract

1,199,015. Lubricants. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 21 May, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 27581/67. Heading C5F. Lubricants comprise a lubricating oil and up to 10 wt. per cent of a quaternary ammonium salt of formula where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are each hydrocarbon radicals and R 5 and R 6 are C 1 -C 20 alkyl radicals e.g. tetrabutyl and tetraethyl ammonium dibutyl phosphate. The lubricating oil may be mineral or synthetic e.g. di-iso-octyl sebacate. Two of the radicals R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 may be joined to form a heterocyclic ring e.g. a piperidine ring.
