A lubricant comprises up to 10% wt. of a compound of the general Formula (I) or Formula (II) wherein n is 1 to 10 and R is H or a C 1 -C 10 alkyl group; dissolved in a base oil. Suitable base oils are mineral lubricating oils, synthetic esters, e.g. dioctyl sebacate, and polyphenylene oxides.
