Abstract

1,198,811. PVC compositions. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 17 Aug., 1967 [26 Aug., 1966], No. 38369/66. Heading C3P. PVC (homopolymer or copolymer) is mixed with 5-43 p.h.r. of an aromatic hydrocarbon fraction containing at leat 90% aromatics derived by treatment of a solvent extract obtained from a petroleum fraction boiling above 275‹ C. to give a composition of higher tensile strength than the original PVC. The fraction is obtained by solvent extraction of a lube oil, using two extractions. There may also be added silica, diatomaceous earth, titania, carbon, clay or talc as fillers which may be coated with lithium stearate lubricant, lead or tin stabilizers, e.g. lead diphosphite in dioctyl phthalate and calcium stearate.
