Abstract

1,198,048. Polymerizing vinyl chloride. WACKER-CHEMIE G.m.b.H. 26 March, 1969 [29 March, 1968], No. 15864/69. Heading C3P. Vinyl chloride is polymerized iu aqueous suspension using molecular oxygen or a ges containing it as the sole catalyst. Hydroxyethyl cellulose is the preferred dispersing agent, others being mentioned and a comonomer may be present. In an example the monomer, water, and dispersing agent are charged to an autoclave and air added to give 0À01-3% by weight of oxygen based on vinyl chloride and the autoclave rotated for 40 hours at 70‹ C.
