Abstract
1,197,963. Plate heat exchangers. A.P.V. CO. Ltd. 5 Jan., 1968 [19 Jan., 1967; 31 July, 1967], Nos. 2902/67 and 35026/67. Heading F4S. In a corrugated plate heat exchanger of the type wherein adjacent plates are separated by peripheral gaskets, each plate is formed with corrugations transverse to the heat exchange fluid flow directions. The corrugations, as shown, comprise inclined crests 5, troughs 6 and flanks 7, the crests and troughs being locally reduced in height and depth along the corrugations such that adjacent plates 8, 9 contact each other over spaced regions thus forming transverse restrictions which subdivide the fluid flow passing between the plates. As shown in Fig. 3, fluid flow chambers defined by the crests 5, troughs 6, flanks 7 and transverse wall portions 10 are aligned normal to the corrugations. Other arrangements (not shown) wherein the chambers are angled with respect to the corrugations are described In alternative embodiments (not shown) the corrugation configurations are modified. For example the contacting crests and troughs of adjacent plates may be horizontal or of curved shape.
