Abstract
1,197,725. Emptying cigarette &c. storage trays. MOLINS MACHINE CO. Ltd., and D. W. MOLINS. 4 Aug., 1967 [5 Aug., 1966], No. 35172/66. Heading B8C. Apparatus empties open-fronted cigarette storage trays by raising the trays or their entire contents to a position where an increment of the contents is above a discharge level at which it is pushed, or drawn on to a conveyer moving in a direction transverse to the cigarette axes. Filled trays are advanced by a conveyer on to a platform 4 where, in one embodiment, pins 11 engage apertures in a loose bottom plate 8 having projections sliding in end wall grooves 9. The pins raise the plate and the entire stack an increment above the level of the tray wall 10. A pusher 17 moves the projecting group of cigarettes across a check plate 14 between guide plates 12 for removal by a conveyer 15. This may carry them to cigarette feeding apparatus as described in Specification 1,175,201. The stack is then raised through further increments until exhausted and the empty tray is lowered on to a discharge conveyer 6. In another embodiment, a suction block, extending the width of the tray may hold the cigarettes below the pusher against movement by friction. In others, a suction block grips the group of cigarettes to pull it on to the conveyer. If the block operates from the open side of the tray, the tray itself may rise instead of a bottom plate only.
